Hello everyone!  I think everyone has been pleased with the wonderful reception we have had from Bob's Place Restaurant, 230 Jericho Tpke., Floral Park, NY.  Thank you to proprietor, Bob Manning, for the great food & service, with a great price.  Bob has expressed interest in joining the club.

The private room venue gives us cause to focus on good fellowship and our good works.  Our recent speakers have been:  Tom Lai, prospective member, who gave us a talk on “Cloud Computing”; Jacki Yonick who presented RYLA - Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, while Bellerose resident & Surrogate Judge, Edward W. McCarty, gave a speech about our communities history as well as the NC jury system he overseas.

“Rotary Park was a great place to be on Halloween”.  This was the caption on the picture in this week's “Gateway”.  Special thanks to Paul Pelligrini, Bryan Smolarz, Tom Reilly, Greg Kramer and NHPMHS students, Deidre & Adena Schaefer, who all spent the afternoon distributing lots of candy to the Halloweeners as well as 60 ID Kits to accompanying adults.  We have discovered that young parents are very appreciative of receiving ID Kits so we will endeavor to do this again, emphasizing child safety.

Last week we had our first Club Assembly for the Rotary 2011-2012 year and accomplished much. Included in our midst were Mike Iglio and Jessica Carrasquillo from the Rotary Club of Franklin Square Elmont who were invited to help us discuss considering joining forces with their club to put on a Circus in the fall of 2012 .  The Manhasset club has been doing a successful fall, fund raiser, Circus project for over a decade, so we have a model to follow.  We had some good debate which was enriched by Shane Parouse's guests, Mark Reisig and Mike Goldfeder.  Based on the discussion it was agreed we would move forward.  Now we need to nail down a place and date.  Stay tuned!

We also had as our guest, Diane Robinson, from the NY Blood Center.  Bryan Smolarz had been in touch with Diane and she asked us to run a blood drive.  There is a huge need for blood at this time of the year and all unanimously agreed to our doing a drive.  It will be held on 12/27/11 from 2:30pm-8:30pm at the United Methodist Church of Floral Park, 35 Verbena Ave.  Kindly ask everyone you know who can donate blood, to do so!  We will also ask people to bring canned goods for  The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network), Hempstead, NY.

We will have our kick-off for the blood drive at our next meeting on 11/22/11.  At that meeting our guest speaker  will be John Beyer, owner of  Men on the Move in Floral Park which provides moving and storage services.  He just acquired a warehouse in Glen Cove which had been vacant for years.  It's an interesting story of perseverance and business acumen.  Please bring a guest so they can see Rotary in action.

Note:  Our Rotary District 7250 is having a TGIAF (Thank God It's Almost Friday) Happy Hour at Bob's Place this Wednesday, 11/16/11 at 5:30pm..  There will be lots of good networking people coming so you should too!
